Our Story

UKUPHILA NGOBUCIKO is a registered company (Reg# 2022/467786/07), established January 2022.

A collective of directors and ex-directors of arts therapy driven NPOs who have been working for decades training Community Arts Facilitators across South Africa, came together with a shared vision to develop an ambitious, visionary, multi-model healing through creative arts programme which, if properly supported and managed, has the potential to heal, uplift and empower individuals and communities across the country, opening empathic pathways, foster holistic development and social cohesion.

Collectively, UKUPHILA NGOBUCIKO has about 140 years of experience in the field of designing and delivering community-based arts facilitators training. We are a team of qualified Arts Therapists, Arts Counsellors and Applied Arts Practitioners carrying extensive clinical experience with a hugely diverse range of beneficiaries. (We recently changed the term ‘facilitator’ to Community Arts Repair Practitioner. Our training is rooted in arts therapy principles.  Arts Repair work is about creating and holding safe spaces in which participants are free to play and express themselves, more than ‘teaching’ arts skills with the aim of using those skills as a source of income. Arts Repair Practitioners facilitate holistic personal growth, provide spiritual, psychological and emotional support through arts activities. This requires self-awareness, a willingness to walk one’s own path of healing and personal growth using the arts, and the development of self-reflection skills. Our training provides this, in ways that teacher and/or arts training does not. We are the only collective that has been developing such a training and we are ready for large-scale roll-out.
